Apple ipad for rent

one comment

As promised we’ll have an Apple ipad for rent on rentoid.com in Melbourne early next week.

apple-ipad1

It is $20 a day to rent. You can rent it for maximum of 3 days. People are starting to book their days of ipad play. It’s a great way to test the device and reduce the risk of buying it if it doesn’t rock your world the way it is supposed to.

Click here for more details on the rental of it.

Moore’s Law

leave a comment

Moore’s law in simple to understand terms states the following:

“Computing power will double every two years, for approxiamtely the same cost.”

gordon-moore

Moore’s law describes a long-term trend in the history of computing hardware. What it means for us is simple.

Anything we form of technology we buy (Cameras, Video Cameras, Computers, Mobile Phones, Printers, Televisions, ipods….) will be virtually worthless in a year or two.

Which is why we should all be outsourcing risk of obsolescence to rentoid.com

In fact we should do the following becuase all technological equipment is outdated so quickly.

Rent out all the tech equipment we own on rentoid. This helps pay for the inevitable depreciation costs. It’s also not worth worrying about things being damaged, because things are outdated so quickly anyway, and we can protect our items with a bond on rentoid.com

Rent tech equipment we need temporarily. Knowing how quick this stuff degenerates, we should try and rent rather than buy where ever possible. Think twice before buying.

The point is this: Some things we have to own and some we don’t. Now with rentoid we can work around Moores Law by renting our tech stuff to and from each other to reduce the total cost of technology for all rentoid members.

Spread the word.

The rentoid team.

Melbourne Sustainability Drinks

leave a comment

Rentoid Founder, CEO and all round nice guy Steve Sammartino will be giving the key note speech at the Melbourne Sustainability drinks in August.  August 5th to be precise.

Melbourne Sustainability Drinks

For the uninitiated the ‘Sustainability Drinks’ event presented by the Shaper Group and is all about connecting passionate people who want to create a better world. Something we are proud to be associated with. The fact is, we can’t rely on large corporations or governments to create our future. We have to do it ourselves. We have to be positive about the technology we have access to and invent new ways of living which don’t ruin our only home (Earth). Our backyard is shared and it deserves a little more respect than we’ve given it in the past.

In the spirit of this Steve will be painting a picture of where he sees the internet improving the future in what promises to be an inspiring session. Come along for a drink and some positive vibes with people who are making a difference.

Details: 6-8pm August 5th, Tjanabi, in Federation Square. (Flinders St side)

Or click here for a map & more info

Cheers, rentoid team.

The story of ‘Stuff’

leave a comment

I stumbled upon this great documentary about ‘Consumption’ and how this is really causing some problems in the world.. The whole thing goes for about 20 minutes. But I’ve just put part 1 below as a start for you - and the youtube link below it where you can watch the entire series.

This is what rentoid.com is all about - enabling us to maximise the world limited resources without adversely affecting lifestyle and creating a positive ecological change to human behaviour. Renting is such a simple solution. How many cars, ladders, nintendo wii’s does the world really need?

Big ups to the peeps from ‘the story about stuff’ - Keep up the great work.

There’s been a dramatic change in the rentoid lists lately for what is in demand. For the first time in 6 months the Nintendo Wii has been chopped off the top spot… and here is the most recent top 10 searched items on rentoid.com

  1. Cars ( is yours listed? - great money to be made here)
  2. Jumping castles
  3. Treadmills (a staple favourite)
  4. Boats (summer)
  5. Trailers
  6. Tents (Must be that hot weather in Melbourne & Australia that has everyone getting outdoors)
  7. Dog (What the?)
  8. Air Conditioners (Anyone in Melbourne knows why)
  9. Fridge (Good old classic)
  10. Bicycles.

This is what people want. If you’ve got it - get it up on rentoid and make some cash.
