10 things renters want

leave a comment

Here’s some stuff people are requesting a zillion times each day which we just don’t have any or enough of.

1. 3D printers - We estimate a 4 week payback period on investing in 1 to rent. By the way - the type of techie nerds who would rent this would definitely not damage it… (we reckon)

2. iPads - The iPad 2 we have very few of, and hundreds of requests and searches daily.

3. Galaxy Tabs - Again people are doing their comparisons on which one to buy.

4. XBox Kinnect - Not just for gaming. People ant to test their software mashups.

5. Car Roof boxes - Thule are most popular.

6. Caravans & Camping gear - Basic idea of temporary needs.(Get your tents on rentoid peeps)

7. Projectors - People are sick of hotels & conference rooms charging $300 a day for a simple laptop projector and would rather rent yours for a reasonable price.

8. Chainsaws - the ultimate temporary need for when a tree falls down.

9. Trailers - You could really spin some money if you have one sitting in your drive way.

10. Ski gear - Same lesson here. peope would rather rent your ski / snow gear at a reasoanble price than get ripped off at the mountain.

Exploding Rental Myths #1- “You only rent when you can’t afford to buy it”

leave a comment

Part of the fun here at rentoidHQ is smashing lots of common myths and misconceptions about hire and rental.  So we thought we’d do a short series of blog posts on some of the key myths that rentoid has helped squash.

Starting with the myth that you only rent stuff you can’t afford.

The economic logic just doesn’t add up on this one.

Let me give you an example.  Do you own a camcorder?  It probably cost you about $500, and you may have saved for it, put it on the plastic, whatever, but you were able to afford it.

So then, how many times have you used it?  A recent twitpoll on twitter suggests most people have used theirs an average of four times.  Thats $125.00 a time!

Would you have purchased it if the sales guy said to you “Each time you use this HD-XP-3300 SL-CD Cam Corder it will cost you $125.00″?

Didn’t think so.

To rub salt into your wound, that camera at the back of your cupboard is probably out of date now too.

But you can rent new HD Cam Corders for about $120.00 a day.   That’s cheaper than buying a new one, and it features the lastest technology.

Rent it four times, and that’s $480.00, cheaper than spending $500+ on a new one.

And it doesn’t matter if its a lawnmower, ladder, Playstation, or car roof carrier, the economics of buying some of these items that you can afford, but rarely use always looses out to renting!

Myth Busted!

And if you have an example to share about how you have used rentoid to rent something that you could afford, but only needed on a temporary basis, we’d love to hear about it!

How to get a free Apple ipad

Rent it out. Why would you want to do this? Simple, you’ll get your shiny new ipad for free.

Here’s how: Rent out your ipad for the first 5 weeks you own it. Rental fee of up to $100 per week. 5 rentals later, and other people have paid for your ipad.

apple-ipad

You might ask - who would rent an ipad for $100? People who are curious about it and want to test the functionality before they buy it. people who are prepared to wait a few weeks or months before they dive in. In fact: real people like these below who tweeted directly to me that they would rent one as soon as we have it available.

So here’s what I will be doing. Buying one as soon as they are available in Australia and renting it out. We all win.

Get smart, and get yours listed on rentoid.com today - and be sure to tell us when you list it so we can promote it for you.

Label your pictures of rental items

leave a comment

A simply tip for when listing your items on rentoid.com

Make sure you label the pictures you put up for your rental items.

Why?

Well many people search the web for picture of stuff they need - this includes rental and hire items. And unless your pictures are labeled as what the item is, Google wont know. If this item is labeled as say ‘Callaway Golf Clubs’ then Google can index the picture. And the result for you is more people finding your rental items.

The best way to do it is to label the jpeg before you start the listing process.

Rentoid Secrets

leave a comment

Rentoid Secrets:
- Things worth less than $100 to buy never rent out. Don’t waste your time listing them.
- Items without pictures never rent out. make sure you item has a picture or it will never be rented.
- Pricing matters. When the price is right you rent things over and over again. when it is wrong it will never rent.

Here is the rentoid pricing guide:
Daily rental price = 1% of items value to buy
Weekly rental price = 5% of items value to buy
Monthly rental price = 10% of items value to buy

If you aren’t sure what it is worth to buy use the website www.getprice.com.au or Google it or even check on Ebay.

Put a bond down on your item to protect it. I recommend 20-50% of it’s value. Because people are normally renting things not because they can’t afford it, but because they only need it temporarily.

Here is a list of items which have been hot rentals lately:

1. Roof pods (Thule)
2. Roof racks for cars - especially during the holiday period
3. Wireless internet modem key’s
4. Light projectors for presentations
5. Gaming consoles (Wii Xbox et al) and all accessories
6. Jetski’s
7. Boats (Skiining and fishing)
8. Trailers - any type - hot item.
9. Quirky Costumes - guy has a chewbacca suit which rents out on rentoid every weekend.
10. Laptops - any kind so long as it has wifi
11. Video cameras
12. Digital cameras
14. iphones
15. Apple Mac laptos
16. Pressure washers.

Also - just check you shed, spare room and garage.

Make sure you put in very detailed descriptions. The more words, the more rentals. People want info.

If you need any more info just call me Steve on 0438 779566 (I’m real and I’m here to help)
