Free storage

leave a comment

Paying for storage space is a quite annoying. Here’s how to remove your storage costs and get someone to pay you for storing your items. Forget the renting the storage garage below. The rentoid method is much better and makes you money to boot.

storage-space

A smart rentoid member gave us a call today to tell us how she used rentoid to solve her storage problems. So we thought we’d share her method below.

Here’s what to do in simple 3 simple steps:

  1. Put the items you would normally be storing on rentoid up for rent. (List your items)
  2. List these items for rent, at great cheap prices. Yes really cheap - remember you would normally be paying someone to store these items for you. So any rental price here will still be a win and save you money.
  3. Maybe rent your items in a bundle of household items for rent - for example: fridge, Washing machine & dryers would work well together.
  4. Tell us at rentoid about your stuff and we’ll help you promote it.
  5. rent stuff out - and tell your friends how you got paid for someone else to store your stuff.

Awesome.

Let us know how you go - rentoid team.

Melbourne Sustainability Drinks

leave a comment

Rentoid Founder, CEO and all round nice guy Steve Sammartino will be giving the key note speech at the Melbourne Sustainability drinks in August.  August 5th to be precise.

Melbourne Sustainability Drinks

For the uninitiated the ‘Sustainability Drinks’ event presented by the Shaper Group and is all about connecting passionate people who want to create a better world. Something we are proud to be associated with. The fact is, we can’t rely on large corporations or governments to create our future. We have to do it ourselves. We have to be positive about the technology we have access to and invent new ways of living which don’t ruin our only home (Earth). Our backyard is shared and it deserves a little more respect than we’ve given it in the past.

In the spirit of this Steve will be painting a picture of where he sees the internet improving the future in what promises to be an inspiring session. Come along for a drink and some positive vibes with people who are making a difference.

Details: 6-8pm August 5th, Tjanabi, in Federation Square. (Flinders St side)

Cheers, rentoid team.

Our people matter

A lot of business talk about their people (employees) being the most important part of the business. And quite frankly they are full of crap. Most businesses care about these things in order of most importance.

1. Profit

2. Shareholders

3. Ego

In general most large companies talk about their people being their most important resource, simply becuase they read it is some text book somewhere or heard it a corporate seminar. The evidence lies in what they call people - ‘Human Resources’. As soon as we think of ‘people as resources’ real intentions and value systems become evident.

I just thought it was about time we gave some recognition to our CTO - Chief Technology Officer - Vasilii Racovitsa. Vasilii is the main coder at rentoid and key technology project manager. He’s currently working on rentoid version 2.0 which will be a dramatic improvement of the rentoid site. With a key focus on usability - and ease of transacting. We’re pretty lucky to have Vasilii because he is a super smart multi-lingual uber geek. He’s currently studying his PhD in computer science. We like to rub shoulders with such people…. :-)

The thing that matters most is that he’s a nice guy who keeps his promises. We are stoked to have him as part of the rentoid team.

The rentoid philosophy

leave a comment

Our good friend at rentoid.com Mr Ben Rowe, who runs the website I vote for art- has just done a terrific post on his blog which really define what we believe. So we’ve shamelessly copied and pasted right here so you can see into our soul.

Dear Old People Who Run the World,

My generation would like to break up with you.

Everyday, I see a widening gap in how you and we understand the world — and what we want from it. I think we have irreconcilable differences.

You wanted big, fat, lazy “business.” We want small, responsive, micro-scale commerce.

You turned politics into a dirty word. We want authentic, deep democracy — everywhere.

You wanted financial fundamentalism. We want an economics that makes sense for people — not just banks.

You wanted shareholder value — built by tough-guy CEOs. We want real value, built by people with character, dignity, and courage.

You wanted an invisible hand — it became a digital hand. Today’s markets are those where the majority of trades are done literally robotically. We want a visible handshake: to trust and to be trusted.

You wanted growth — faster. We want to slow down — so we can become better.

You didn’t care which communities were capsized, or which lives were sunk. We want a rising tide that lifts all boats.

You wanted to biggie size life: McMansions, Hummers, and McFood. We want to humanize life.

You wanted exurbs, sprawl, and gated anti-communities. We want a society built on authentic community.

You wanted more money, credit and leverage — to consume ravenously. We want to be great at doing stuff that matters.

You sacrificed the meaningful for the material: you sold out the very things that made us great for trivial gewgaws, trinkets, and gadgets. We’re not for sale: we’re learning to once again do what is meaningful.

The story of ‘Stuff’

leave a comment

I stumbled upon this great documentary about ‘Consumption’ and how this is really causing some problems in the world.. The whole thing goes for about 20 minutes. But I’ve just put part 1 below as a start for you - and the youtube link below it where you can watch the entire series.

This is what rentoid.com is all about - enabling us to maximise the world limited resources without adversely affecting lifestyle and creating a positive ecological change to human behaviour. Renting is such a simple solution. How many cars, ladders, nintendo wii’s does the world really need?

Big ups to the peeps from ‘the story about stuff’ - Keep up the great work.

Renting stuff is the future

leave a comment

We’ve been saying it here on rentoid for a long time now - and the New York Times agrees. In a recent article titled ‘We rent movies, so why not books’ they investigated many startup businesses emerging in the rental space. Renting things like Text books, Spare rooms, bicycles… pretty much anything.

the-new-york-times

www.chegg.com is a startup which focuses on renting text books - which is a great way for students to save money.

We say why spend the full amount buying something when you can simply rent it for a fraction of the cost on the occasion you actually need it.
