Critical Mass - Bike Ride

one comment

Critical Mass is a bike ride which happens in cities around the world for a whole heap of good reasons you can see by clicking here, or hereWords from there website:

“CM is intended to be a celebration, not an opportunity to cause trouble. Those who want to try to tie up traffic as much as possible and be confrontational with motorists are missing the point. We can assert our right to the road without being rude about it. Focus on the ride, not on the cars that also happen to be on the road.”

Here’s some photos a rentoid team member snapped on Friday in the Melbourne CBD as the cyclists zoomed by.

Rentoid is stoked that we have a city of people with the initiative to get this eco meme happening. Oh, and if you need to rent a bike for the next ride, we’ve got plenty you can see by clicking here…

Road Rage!

Today’s little thought from Rentoid HQ:

Have you ever been the victim, offender or witness to a bit of good old fashioned ‘road rage’?

Most of you will have answered “Yes” to at least one of the above right?

It’s always the same old story;

Someone gets cut off by another vehicle and thus suddenly feels the urge to hang their torso out the window yelling obscenities and hurling hand gestures in the ‘offenders’ general direction.

Now think about this situation;

You accidentally bump into someone in the street. There is never any yelling, rude hand gestures or cursing. Generally there is a lot of “oh sorry mate” and universal politeness.

So what’s different??

Just because we are surrounded by big ugly metal boxes with four wheels we suddenly forget the fact that we’re dealing with another human being. Why do we forget to be polite and personable while driving? Worst still, why is it the ‘norm’ to abuse other road users?

Next time someone cuts you off on the road, think about how you would act on the street, face to face…  And act accordingly.

The Guy in the Glass

leave a comment

The Guy in the Glass

by Dale Wimbrow, (c) 1934

When you get what you want in your struggle for pelf,

And the world makes you King for a day,

Then go to the mirror and look at yourself,

And see what that guy has to say.

aa

For it isn’t your Father, or Mother, or Wife,

Who judgement upon you must pass.

The feller whose verdict counts most in your life

Is the guy staring back from the glass.

aa

He’s the feller to please, never mind all the rest,

For he’s with you clear up to the end,

And you’ve passed your most dangerous, difficult test

If the guy in the glass is your friend.

aa

You may be like Jack Horner and “chisel” a plum,

And think you’re a wonderful guy,

But the man in the glass says you’re only a bum

If you can’t look him straight in the eye.

aa

You can fool the whole world down the pathway of years,

And get pats on the back as you pass,

But your final reward will be heartaches and tears

If you’ve cheated the guy in the glass.

aa

This is an amazing piece of poetry a friend of mine recently recited to me. Written by Dale Wimbrow in 1934 it still has such relevance today. Each of you will take something unique and different from it; so take from it what is valuable to you…

It doesn’t directly have anything to do with renting or Rentoid, but it’s a poem that struck a chord with all of us here at Rentoid HQ and although some of you may already know it, we thought it would be valuable to share with you all.

Enjoy!

You do the math

leave a comment

Below is a photo of two items which are regular rental items: A family car vs a paint spray gun.

car-vs-spray-gun

We don’t have to be a maths genious to work out that it’s a far better return on investment renting out the spray gun. It’s a wopping 50% Return on Investment…. versus a too small to calculate return on investment for the car.

The point is the renter is still getting a massive benefit in renting out the Spray gun even though ther ROI is very high for the owner who is renting it out.

The benefits to the person who rents the spray gun instead of buying it include:

- Still saves 50% of the cash to buy one

- Doesn’t have to store it and let it gather dust

- It’s better for the environment to have one less spray gun

- They get to meet someone in their local area

- Both parties win financially.

So the point to all you rentoiders out there is. Put some stuff up there to rent and you’ll be surprised at the returns on investment you can get. Some are very, very good. And everyone still wins.  It’d be worth checking out the prices to buy some items and do a mini entrpreneurial project.

And of course if you need any help and ideas on how to do it call us any time

Cheers, rentoid team.
