A bit Grandiose - maybe. But this is what we stand for:

• helping communities ‘connect’ - taking social networking beyond virtual into physical
• Making the rental pie bigger

• Helping people save money through renting instead of buying
• Teaching people that most of our needs are ‘temporary’
• renting is a good way to reduce ’storage needs’
• renting is great when traveling - why bring that pram?
• Proving that economic growth can be achieved without consumption

That’s us. That’s our belief system.

It’s official! Renting stuff has been touted by uber cool magazine ‘Trendhunter’. MTV was actually quoted as saying “find out what’s cool with Trend Hunter magazine, before it’s cool!”

We just had to show you all this crazy innovation. Square watermelons.

No, it’s not a trick.  Retailers in Japan wanted watermelons to be more efficient in transport and take up less space in stores. One savvy farmer decided to think inside the box (crappy office jargon and pun both intended). The idea was simple enough. Plant the seeds in a transparent plastic case. And there you we have it. Innovation and space saving in one.

So to all your gardeners out there. The first sqaure watermelon to be grown (with proof) to be emailed to rentoid.com will be posted on this here blog and win an itunes voucher for $100.

The picture above says it all. The idea is simple: If we change 500,000 light globes in our state we’ll remove 300,000 tones of greenhouse gas. And everyone will save money to boot! Someone will also win a new Honda Civic hybrid car. They’ll lso be launching a new ’resourcesmart’ website in march which aims to take the hard work out of saving money, not to mention the planet.
